Bay Area Film Night is back for its second annual celebration of local storytelling, honoring the filmmakers, artists, and creative visionaries who make our region one of the most vibrant cultural hubs in the world.
Join us on December 16, 2025, at the historic Grand Lake Theatre in Oakland for an unforgettable evening spotlighting award-winning short films from standout Bay Area filmmakers. This isn’t just a screening; it’s a homecoming, a cultural milestone, and a movement to re-establish Oakland as a cinematic center where local talent is truly seen, uplifted, and celebrated.
Meet the Bay Area Filmmakers Behind the Night
Jamal Trulove
Independent Director, Producer & Actor
Known for his breakout performance in The Last Black Man in San Francisco (A24), Jamal’s storytelling is rooted in resilience and authentic Bay Area experiences.
His latest film, I Thought You’d Never Ask, has received:
• Best Screenwriting – Micheaux Film Festival
• Best Bay Area Short Film – San Francisco Short Film Festival
D’Lo Louis
Creative Executive, Writer, Director
Born in Richmond, CA, D’Lo is a multi-disciplinary creative with credits on major films including Creed III, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Judas and the Black Messiah, and Space Jam: A New Legacy.
As a Creative Executive at Proximity Media, he works closely with leading filmmakers to shape bold and culturally grounded narratives. His award-winning short SHOEBOX is a powerful example of his cinematic voice.
