The Oakland African American Chamber Political Action Committee (OAACP) is dedicated to advocating for the political, social, and economic interests of Oakland’s African American community. As a vital force in the political landscape, our mission is to ensure that African American businesses, leaders, and residents have a seat at the table when decisions that affect our community are being made.
Founded on the principle that political and economic empowerment go hand in hand, the OAACP works tirelessly to create opportunities, foster meaningful relationships, and advocate for policies that will bring about long-term change and prosperity for African Americans in Oakland and beyond.
Our Mission
The OAACP exists to empower the African American community politically, ensuring that our voices are heard and our interests are effectively represented in both local and state government. Through our commitment to political advocacy, grassroots mobilization, and strategic partnerships, we aim to:
- Advocate for Policies that Promote Economic Justice: We work to ensure that the African American community in Oakland has access to equitable opportunities in business, education, and healthcare. This includes championing policies that support small businesses, provide access to capital, and create job opportunities.
- Support Political Candidates Who Share Our Values: We endorse and support candidates who understand the unique challenges facing the African American community and are committed to advancing policies that promote justice, equity, and economic empowerment.
- Engage the Community in the Political Process: By encouraging voter registration, participation, and education, we ensure that African Americans have an active and informed voice in local, state, and national elections.

- 25% – Grassroots Mobilization and Community Outreach: These funds support efforts to engage the community through educational initiatives, voter registration drives, and town hall meetings.
- 15% – Leadership Development and Training: This portion helps fund programs that offer leadership development for young African Americans and provide training for community members to become effective political advocates.
